Archos Gamepad 2 leaked

Archos Gamepad 2 leaked

archos-gamepad-2

The original ARCHOS GamePad wasn’t the most popular or successful device ever, but the folks at Archos felt the need to bring us a sequel anyway. The Gamepad 2 has recently been spotted at retailer HKDTC’s website, with the listing giving us a nice, clear look at the device and some of its early specs. The page has since been taken down, but not before folks had a chance to spot the information.

The listing apparently mentioned that this device would have a 1.6GHz quad-core processor (unknown make and model), a 1280 x 800 display (no information on size), 2GB of RAM, and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot. We imagine it’ll run some form of Jelly Bean judging by the look of the OS in the product shots, though we can’t determine which exact version just yet.

The Gamepad 2 should be bringing us a full suite of face buttons complete with a directional pad and two analog sticks. We also see a pair of shoulder buttons sitting up top, which could be made out of some sort of clear material ala the glass on the PlayStation Vita.

We’re stumped beyond that, but if product listings are starting to pop up then that must mean Archos is getting ready to make an announcement soon. We’ll have to wait for that announcement for official details on availability, pricing, and any further details about what will make the Gamepad 2 a desirable item for the gaming public (if they haven’t already fallen in love with the NVIDIA Shield, that is).

Verizon teases possible DROID tablet on Twitter [VIDEO]

Verizon likes to be a bit of a tease when it comes to upcoming DROID devices. They tend to take to their DROIDLanding Twitter account to start hyping new releases, dropping cryptic messages and obscure clues about what their next move may end up being. This time, the account posted the following message:

The story is unfinished. What happens? Tell us ur #DROIDtheory & u could win a VIP trip to our next commercial shoot. http://po.st/8371tO

The link takes us to a video, which is an extended version of the short DROID Ultra and MAXX teaser clips we’ve been seeing since those phones launched. This particular video puts emphasis on a “package” that a guy has been tasked with picking up and protecting… a package that looks like it could be holding a tablet of some sort.

One Twitter user did tell Verizon their DROIDTheory:

As you can see, the DroidLanding Twitter account ended up retweeting that particular response. We’re not sure that necessarily means anything, but it could be affirmation that we are set to see a tablet soon.

It would have to be from Motorola, as the company has recently been confirmed to be the exclusive manufacturer for Verizon’s DROID line of devices. We have heard rumors that Motorola would be looking to jump back into the tablet space after a brief period of silence.

Words from Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside suggested they’d probably look to create a tablet that can be customized with the Moto Maker, the company’s tool that currently allows you to order a Moto X in any combination of colors you wish (with custom etching and bootup greetings, as well). We’re not so sure a DROID tablet would get Moto Maker treatment this early ahead of more carriers (sans AT&T) getting Moto X customization, but it’s something to think about.

Be sure to watch the video for yourself above, and let us know what your thoughts are. Will Verizon be bringing us a new DROID tablet soon or is this something entirely different? Make your voice heard in the comments section below!
